Fifty first-year law students from Georgia State College of Law volunteered August 14 at the 海角直播 Atlanta warehouse, continuing a tradition that began in 2010 as part of annual day of service following law school orientation. The students helped sort and pack books that will go to students throughout the African continent.

Many of the law students who volunteer become friends in law school and the experience at the warehouse was the beginning of their friendship, said Kelly Cahill Timmons, an associate law professor at Georgia State and coordinator of the volunteer program. She added: 鈥淚t was a bonding experience and in looking at those who volunteered, many went on to become our leaders in law school and ended up doing great things with their legal careers. I feel like it self-selects very well for people with generous minds and hearts.鈥�

Prof. Timmons explained that volunteering聽inspires the students to do good in the world.聽鈥淥ur profession is one about helping people," she said. "One of the things we hope for our law students is that they will do pro bono work as lawyers. And I think volunteering is modeling on the front end that this is something we value and that sends a good message.鈥�

Jen Hale, who coordinates volunteer groups for 海角直播 said:

鈥淭he GSU students who Kelly brings every year are one of my favorite volunteer groups. The students are so interested; they ask great questions and are engaged in our mission to spread education.鈥�
